Brief description
Byzantium - Constantinople - Istanbul: European Capital of Culture 2010, the city on two continents, has been a link between Europe and Asia and a bridge between Orient and Occident for years. The call of the muezzin penetrates the noisy, lively metropolis on the Bosporus from countless minarets. With its incomparable location on the strait between the Marmara Sea and the Black Sea, with  Istanbul has always inspired writers with its tough contradictions and its charm. The eventful history and the splendor of the two and a half millennia old capital of the Eastern Roman, Byzantine and Turkish-Ottoman empires are reflected in the cityscape: Byzantine land wall, cistern basilica, Hagia Sophia and Chora church, Blue Mosque and Suleymaniye, Topkapi - and Dolmabahce - Palace, Grand Bazaar, Galata Tower, gigantic suspension bridges over the Bosporus. Discover our own Istanbul, that is the goal of the trip.
